About 150 kilometers southwest of Hami in Xinjiang's Gobi Desert lies Dahaidao, a 4,000-square-kilometer yardang cluster. It is the world's largest and most geologically mature yardang formation, and the only one on the Silk Road with discovered sites of human habitation. Once a Han Dynasty Silk Road route linking Dunhuang and Turpan, it is now a national 4A-level scenic area – and China's only legally traversable no-man's land for self-driving tours, offering visitors an unforgettable experience.
