The new information accessibility space at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) will be inaugurated next Monday, 21st, at the Central Library. Created to enhance autonomy, learning, and access to information, the space, named Cora Room – Knowledge, Opportunities, Resources and Accessibility, will host the exhibition "Brands of Presence" from 3:00 PM onwards, and the entire community is invited.

The space

The Cora Room is dedicated to meeting the needs of students with disabilities (physical, intellectual, mental, or sensory), people with limited mobility, and users who require accessibility resources in their academic activities.

Equipped with digital magnifying glasses, text-to-audio scanners, adapted mice and keyboards, wireless head mice, screen readers and amplifiers, and digital accessibility tools, the space combines adapted infrastructure, assistive technology, and a trained team for inclusive service. In addition, the room was designed without physical barriers and with accessible furniture to ensure free circulation.

For Lívia Ferreira, librarian at the Central Library of UFJF, the Cora Room consolidates as a continuous and transformative project of the library system. The structure of the space highlights the accessibility actions in partnership with theCore of Support for Inclusion (NAI)and ensures a development aligned with the needs of students. “The room represents the embodiment of interdependence, the right to knowledge and culture, and the true sense of belonging of students in the academic environment,” says Lívia.

Exhibition Marks of Presence

To celebrate the inauguration of the Cora Room, the exhibition Marks of Presence will be on display in the space. The exhibition focused on the protagonism and representation of people with disabilities – affiliated with the University and also from the external community – and on the valorization of their production artistic.

The curatorial process combined the loan of artworks for the temporary exhibition, which will be on display until October 2, and the donation of works that permanently form the visual identity of the Cora Hall. The inauguration ceremony and the visit to the hall and the exhibition are open to the general public.
