Heavy rain in the state capital left at least 17 flooding and inundation points and three collapses, one of which victimized a resident of Brasilândia, in the city's north zone.

According to the Emergency Management Center of the São Paulo City Hall, the city had a flood alert until 5 p.m. this Wednesday (14). The south zone recorded the highest amount of rainfall, with 67.8mm at Córrego Sapateiro, in the Ibirapuera Park region, and 64mm at the station located in the Aclimação Park.

Despite the high volume in the south zone, the greatest damage was recorded in the center, with floods at the end of Avenida 23 de Maio, at Terminal Bandeira, and in the Anhangabaú Tunnel. According to the Fire Department, it was necessary to rescue four people stranded in the tunnel.

There were damaged cars and buses, with no confirmation yet of the number of vehicles affected. The flooding ended around 5 p.m.

The State Civil Defense also confirmed flooding at Terminal Bandeira and Trianon-MASP station, on Line 2-Green of the Metro. The Liberdade station, on Line 2-Blue, also has records of water taking the stairs. According to the Metro and CPTM, all lines were operating normally at 7 p.m. this Wednesday.

Collapses

There were also three collapses in the capital. One of them was a building used as a pension, on Rua Conselheiro Ramalho, in the central region. There were no residents at the time of the incident, and the building was prohibited by the Municipal Civil Defense.

On Santa Cruz do Monte Castelo Street, in Brasilândia, a victim was buried and rescued by bystanders. When the emergency team arrived at the scene, death was confirmed.

Interior of São Paulo state

The State Civil Defense reported damage in several cities in São Paulo. In Assis, in the west region, flooding was recorded in certain areas. In Pitangueiras, in the northern part of the state, trees fell in the Centro, Jardim Paraíso, and Santa Vitória neighborhoods, and two homes suffered partial roof damage.

No injuries or displaced persons have been reported, but one family has been evacuated. There are records of tree falls in public roads in other cities in the central region of the state, such as Monte Mor and Paulínia, with no victims. A total of 46 alerts were sent by 6:15 PM to various regions.

There were also records of wind gusts over 70 km/h in the state. The strongest gust recorded was in Paulínia, early in the afternoon, at 80.5 km/h. In Jardinópolis, the wind reached 74.5 km/h; in Ribeirão Preto, it hit 74 km/h, and in Pradópolis, 73.1 km/h.

Forecast

According to the city hall, the weather remains unstable, with the possibility of rain during the night of this Wednesday and the early morning of Thursday.

Between the afternoon and evening of the 15th, there is an expectation of more significant rainfall volumes.

On Friday (16th), the spread of a cold front along the São Paulo coast will cause another day with overcast skies, rainy weather, and potential for flooding and landslides in at-risk areas.
