During thesolemn session of promulgation of the constitutional amendmentwhich reduces the maximum working week from 44 to 40 hours, without salary cuts, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), pointed out the measure as one of the most important achievements of the working class.
He stated that the end of the 6x1 shift benefits millions of Brazilians and ensures men and women a better quality of life.
"People who often only have one day a week to balance rest, family, health, study, and everything else that life demands. It was looking at this reality that the National Congress decided to face a debate that had not been structurally revisited since the 1988 Constitution," he highlighted.
According to Motta, the change was approved after much dialogue between all sectors involved, such as workers, businesses, and civil society representatives. The outcome of this process, he said, was a mature proposal that will allow the country to advance without losing sight of the reality of companies, workers, and especially micro and small businesses.
Today, the National Congress writes in the Constitution a choice about the Brazil we want to be. A country that values work without forgetting the worker, he defended.
MEI (Microentrepreneur Individual)
Motta reminded of the approval by the National Congress of a bill that expands the annual revenue limit for Individual Microentrepreneurs (MEIs) from the current R$ 80,000 to R$ 110,000 next year, and to R$ 140,000 in 2028.
According to him, around 13 million microentrepreneurs across Brazil could benefit. He also expressed hope that the proposal would be sanctioned by President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, this week.
"After all, strengthening the MEI (Microentrepreneur Individual Registry) is strengthening millions of Brazilian families. It's allowing small businesses to grow without being penalized by their own success," he said.

"Six to one, there we made an agreement that was fulfilled by the federal government, by the executive branch, to be able to guarantee this adjustment of the MEI," Motta acknowledged.
Health agents
The constitutional amendment that provides for special retirement for community health workers and vector control agents was also promulgated.In his speech, Motta stated that the amendment addresses a long-standing demand from these professionals, establishing retirement rules consistent with the demands of the profession.
According to Hugo Motta, the text was constructed with listening, responsibility, and attention to the balance of the social security system.
"It is through these professionals that public health often reaches the doors of Brazilians. They traverse communities, accompany families, provide guidance on prevention, and act as a bridge between the community and the Basic Health Unit. They are on the front line of prevention, care, and the fight against diseases such as dengue," said the President of the Chamber.
"What matters is that the effects of these decisions are felt in everyday life. In the father, who will have more time to participate in his children's lives. In the mother, who will be able to find more time for herself and her family. In the worker, who will have space in his routine to resume studies. In the health agent, who, after a lifetime dedicated to caring for other families, will be able to retire with more security," he added.
