The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the Court of Justice of Ceará (TJCE) has gained international attention with the publication of a study on the website of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The article, available in three languages (Portuguese, English, and Spanish), shows the significant gains in efficiency and productivity in the 1st Grade Judicial Secretariat (Sejud 1), responsible for the proceedings of 104 judicial units in Fortaleza.
The focus of the research was the "Mechanism for Identifying Similar Acts" (Midas), an AI tool that combines Natural Language Processing (NLP) and machine learning techniques to read, classify, and group judicial acts based on textual similarity.

HOW IT WORKS
In practice, Midas automates the screening and grouping of repetitive tasks, allowing employees to process cases in batches, complying with judicial orders much more quickly. During the experiment that compared groups of workers with and without the help of AI, employees using the tool were able to produce, on average, 10 cases more per day. This difference represented an increase of 37% in the volume of work completed daily compared to the other group.
According to the study, the adopted methodology has proven that productivity gains are consistent and robust, suggesting that the observed gain is related to the processing of similar tasks in batches provided by the Artificial Intelligence tool, and not just to the isolated performance of specific servers. The study reinforces that the combination of technical knowledge, commitment, and daily effort of employees, combined with the support of Artificial Intelligence tools, can produce significant results for improving the administration of justice and, above all, for more efficient service to litigants.
