The National Congress is analyzing Provisional Measure 1392/26, which opensextraordinary creditof R$ 64,289 million in the Union Budget. The funds will be allocated to food security and the guarantee of the rights of indigenous peoples. The text was published in the Official Gazette of the Union on Tuesday (22).
Of the total, R$ 40,264 million will be allocated by the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Food Security for the purchase and distribution of food from family farms. 4,026 farmer families will be served.
The remaining $24,025 million will go to the National Indigenous Peoples Foundation (Funai), which is linked to the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples. The money will be used for promotion of rights and citizenship in 1,300 indigenous communities.
Next steps
The provisional measure is already in effect, but it needs to be approved by the National Congress to become law.
The text will be analyzed byJoint Budget Committee(JBC) and, subsequently, by the plenary sessions of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.
