The National Bank of Ukraine has raised its key policy rate to 16.5%.

According to an Ukrinform correspondent, Governor Andriy Pyshnyy announced the decision at a briefing.

“The Board of the National Bank of Ukraine has decided to raise the key policy rate to 16.5% in view of significantly stronger price pressures and worsening inflation expectations,” Pyshnyy said.

He noted that the decision will support the attractiveness of hryvnia assets and the stability of the foreign‑exchange market, helping maintain control over inflation expectations and price dynamics.

“The NBU stands ready to respond flexibly to further changes in the balance of risks, taking into account both the persistence of price pressures and the potential effects of weaker economic activity,” the governor emphasized.

As reported, the National Bank in January 2022 raised the key policy rate to 10%. In June 2022, it was hiked sharply from 10% to 25%, where it remained for more than a year. On July 27, 2023, the rate was lowered to 22%, followed by gradual reductions. In September 2026, the rate was raised to 16%.
