Find out how to contribute with reduced value to receive social security protection.

The "low-income voluntary insured" modality exists to facilitate access to Social Security for people who dedicate themselves exclusively to domestic work in their own home and belong to low-income families. Therefore, the contribution, i.e., the monthly payment to the National Social Security Institute (INSS), has a reduced value of only 5% of the minimum wage.
Currently, this amount corresponds toR$ 81.05 per monthThe contribution can be made through a form or receipt. Check how to do it, as well as other information about this category of insured.
To be eligible for this modality, it is necessary to:
- Not have own income (including rent, alimony, survivor's pension, etc.)
- Not engage in paid work;
- Dedicate exclusively to domestic work in one's own residence;
- Have a family income of up to two minimum wages;
- Being registered in the Cadastro Único for Social Programs (CadÚnico), with up-to-date data in the last two years. Registration is made at theLocal Social Reference and Assistance Center (CRAS)of the municipality.
Access to INSS benefits
Some of the benefits include old-age and permanent disability pensions, temporary disability allowance (formerly disability allowance), and maternity allowance. Dependents may also be entitled to survivor's pension and imprisonment allowance, according to the rules of each benefit.
Up-to-date contributions
Attention! Unpaid household work does not, on its own, guarantee automatic access to INSS benefits. Therefore, registration and correct contribution are important for those who want to have social security protection.
These criteria are important to ensure that the contribution is validated by the INSS. Paying the reduced rate without fulfilling the required conditions may result in the non-recognition of the contributions.
Therefore, before starting to contribute, it is important to check if the family and social security situation complies with the rules.
Are there other ways to contribute?
If you are a housewife, as described above, but your family income is above the two minimum wages, there are other ways to contribute in order to also have access to social security benefits.
One of them is thesimplified plan, which is an alternative, in which the contribution rate is 11% of the minimum wage. And, in this case, no registration in CadÚnico or proof of low income is required. It is only necessary that there is no employment, as this would classify you asmandatory insured, another type of modality that is very different.
Another possibility is thestandard planwith a rate of 20% on a base, that is, the value chosen between the minimum wage and the social security ceiling. In this case, the monthly contribution varies according to the value used as the basis for contribution.
It is important to highlight that the plans of5% and 11%present some limitations. For the use of contributions for retirement based on contribution time and for the issuance of a Certificate of Contribution Time (CTC), for example, it may be necessary to supplement the contributions, according to the relevant legal provisions.
The choice should take into account the financial situation of the person and their retirement goals.
How to make the contribution?
To begin, the housewife should first check if she is actually registered with INSS (through Meu INSS or phone 135). Then, she should issue the Guia monthly.Social Security(GPS) to make the payment.
Click to view more information about GPS.
It is also possible to use a contribution card (purchased from stationery stores), with code 1929, which refers to the monthly payment for low-income voluntary insured individuals. Make the payment at the bank. Pay the form by the 15th of the month following the contribution period. If there is no banking service on that date, the due date is extended to the next business day.
If needed, seek assistance at the CRAS in your city.
However, before starting to make the payments, it is important to check if you are registered in CadÚnico and with up-to-date information. If not, you can contact the CRAS (Centro de Referência de Assistência Social) in your municipality to get more information.
In addition, it is important to highlight that registration in CadÚnico does not guarantee automatic enrollment in the low-income modality.
It is also important to keep payments up to date and keep proof of payment. If you have any questions, consult the Meu INSS website or app or call 135.
