Scientific Conference discusses the impact of artificial intelligence on agriculture

"The AI Revolution in Agriculture" is the theme of the 20th edition of the Scientific Conference of the Embrapa Cassava and Fruits (BA), which will take place from October 13 to 16 in the Manihot auditorium and in the corridors of the institution's research building, located in Cruz das Almas. The event brings together presentations by scholarship recipients of the State of Bahia Research Support Fund (Fapesb) and of the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) — with emphasis on scholarship holders for Scientific Initiation/slots within these institutions, as well as interns and scholarship holders linked to projects of Embrapa, at the secondary, undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Between Tuesday (13) and Thursday (15), 97 papers will be presented, 32 in oral format, 16 in online format (conducted in the advanced fields outside of Cruz das Almas) and 49 posters. The morning of the last day (16) will be dedicated to the closing and awarding ceremony.

The opening, at 8:00 AM, will feature the lecture "Artificial Intelligence in Agriculture," presented byDomingos Sárvio Magalhães Valente, a professor at the Department of Agricultural Engineering at the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), where he works in teaching, research, and extension in precision and digital agriculture, agricultural machinery, and applications of artificial intelligence in agriculture. Valente has published more than 80 articles in journals and is a co-author of the book "Digital Agriculture".

Awards
The best works in each category will receive awards offered by the sponsors. The student and supervisor of the best-evaluated work will receive the Orlando Passos Trophy, named after one of the most experienced and beloved former researchers at the Unit, who recently retired. The Special Prize in Mathematics and Statistics for Agricultural Sciences is awarded to the work that best addresses experimental design, data analysis, and presentation of the results obtained.
