The Teacher's Day, October 15, should be a day of celebration and reflection. This is the view of the columnist from Conexão BdF, Daniel Cara, a professor at the Faculty of Education of the University of São Paulo (USP).Connection BdF, fromBrazil Fact Radio, Daniel Cara, professor at theEducation Facultyof the University of São Paulo (USP).
In his participation on the newspaper, he defended equal pay between teachers of theBasic EducationAnd regarding higher education, he criticized the lack of appreciation for the profession in general. "There is a disrepect for education, and this is not just a problem in Brazil, but a issue in the Global South. Countries need to understand that education is an inevitable path to development. Is it possible to achieve development solely through education? No. But without education, it is also not possible," he argues, citing Paulo Freire.
With ten days left until the second round, the presidentLuiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT)It seized the occasion to reinforce its proposals for education. One of them concerns the expansion of full-time schools, with more time absorbing content and less time in front of screens.
Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) already has in his government program the proposal that students attend private universities and pay, out of pocket, after securing a job. For Cara, this measure is "completely demagogic" and, if implemented, would be terrible, as initial earning capacity is low. Regarding Lula's proposal, the professor considers it of great importance and adds a suggestion: that students also engage in cultural, artistic, sporting, and practical laboratory activities, even outside the classroom. "It is important that, after school, students have varied experiences, and this leads to greater learning. For example, a percussion class can generate more learning in mathematics than hours of purely mathematical class," he argues.
