Self-donations

The amount reached R$ 160 million, which was almost R$ 5,000 donated by candidates to themselves in their campaigns. Of those, 4,080 were defeated in the first round, which means they wasted R$ 104 million. The champion in this regard was the Catarinense Gelson Merísio (PSB), who withdrew R$ 1.15 million from his own pocket and came in second in the race for the state government. He obtained 15.6% of the valid votes.
